Updated Guidance for Air Travelers and Country-Specific Information

By Published On: January 14th, 2022

Leaving and entering the U.S. has a few more steps now, and it can be tiring keeping up with new guidance. The December 2021 requirements for air travelers were implemented for all, not just unvaccinated. It states:
“Starting on December 6, air travelers aged two and older, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within one day of the flight’s departure to the United States before boarding.”
So to be ready, you need two things: 1) your negative Covid test and 2) Country-Specific Information. For example, Spain requires a QR code generated from the SpTH app.

Covid Testing:
Suppose you prefer taking an at-home test instead of waiting in line at your local covid testing site. In that case, Abbott’s BinaxNOW tests are authorized for emergency use by the FDA. They are sold at CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart. If you can’t find them there, they are available online in a six-pack on eMed for $150.

Specific Country Requirements:
Rules are changing daily, and it can be overwhelming trying to find reliable information. These steps may seem obvious to some, but if you don’t know, here’s how to find out what’s needed for a specific country.

  1. 1. Go here and input your country in the “Learn about your destination” search bar. As an example, I put France. Ok, things aren’t looking so great for France right now.

2. But if you want further information scroll down to the “If you decide to travel to France” section and click on the “See U.S. Embassy’s web page.”

3. Once there, you can read all the specific requirements for France, including a sworn statement that you do not have symptoms of Covid-19, along with where U.S. citizens can find PCR and antigen tests, etc.

Hopefully, these links will provide some help in your future travels. I think many of us felt that in 2022, we would see a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with Covid-19. But, unfortunately, new variants have put a halt to that. But let’s not lose hope. Remember to mask up and be safe, everyone.
